Meet Our Team

Joanne Elliott, Research Operations Manager

Research

Joanne is an experienced research manager and has led the research operations team at Longitude for the past 15 months.

With over a decade of experience in research, sales and operations, she has worked on a huge variety of multi-country, highly complex projects in B2B, the consumer world and media. She ultimately ensures that our research programmes run to the highest quality, as well as within cost and time limitations.

Joanne works across all sectors with clients such as Accenture, Intrum, KPMG, EY, Publicis Sapient, Deloitte and Kelly OCG.

What something do our clients have to deal with that you help to fix?

I help our clients to determine the right research specifications for the insight they need from the research programme, which is not always as simple as it sounds. This requires me to understand where they want to carry out the research and if they’re looking for specific stories from the data, therefore ensuring we’re interviewing the right kind of people that will deliver that insight.

I often get involved in the early stages of planning to make sure that our research will cover exactly what’s required and will deliver the best quality data to answer the clients questions.

What is the one thing that would surprise people about your job?

Probably the amount of work that goes into managing a big research project! Obviously, not all of our research campaigns are huge and complex, but often people expect the research phase to be a fairly simple and straightforward process, when in reality it’s rather more involved. For the really big, complex research programmes that we work on, I’m monitoring the uptake, data and results coming through every single day. Even if it’s out in field, you can’t leave it alone for a single day. It’s crucial that we keep in constant contact with our partners to ensure the data we have to work with is of the absolute highest quality.

“A big part of my job is to maintain and build the great relationships we have with all our suppliers so they are willing to go the extra mile when the client needs it.”

I also think it would surprise people to know just how many people are involved in coordinating research projects. This is why we have developed great relationships with a variety of fieldwork partners who know their markets inside-out and have experience of working with all types of research specifications, so we can connect the right research partners to the right project. A big part of my job is to maintain and build the great relationships we have with all our suppliers so they are willing to go the extra mile when the client needs it. It’s helped us with data quality, fast fieldwork and cost reductions, all of which we can pass onto our clients.

What do you like most about working at Longitude?

I love that I get to work with really intelligent people, especially the editors who know the industries and their specialisms inside out. Also, I get to learn something new nearly every single day, which is really amazing.

It’s great being empowered to evolve how we work and how we do things. I’m always looking to find new processes and procedures that will help to make us more efficient and effective as a team, and as a business. We’re always looking to make things better!
